The occupancy rate of the Algarve hotel industry, in February, rose 5,8% compared to the same month last year, reaching 48,3%. In the last decade, this is the highest occupancy rate recorded in the second month of the year.

In addition to the rise in the occupancy rate, the volume of sales also rose by 14,2%, according to data released by the Association of Hotels and Touristic Enterprises of the Algarve (AHETA).

According to the association, the markets that most contributed to the rise were the British (+0,5pp), the Swedish (+0,3pp) and the French (+0,2pp). The Dutch (-0,5pp) and German (-0,2pp) markets registered the main declines.

The domestic market rose by 0,2pp.

By geographical area, the biggest increases occurred in Albufeira (+5,2pp), Tavira (+11,1pp) and Carvoeiro / Armação de Pêra (+1,9pp), while Monte Gordo / VRSA (-1,8pp) and Lagos / Sagres (-1,5pp) were down.

In accumulated terms, in the last 12 months, the occupancy/room rate, according to AHETA, registered an increase of 7,3%.
