The Fire Department and the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Olhão will carry out door-to-door awareness-raising/inspection actions in the different parishes of the county, between March 14th and 20th, in order to raise awareness of fire hazards. The awareness-raising actions, which have the collaboration of GNR, will focus on the "need of fuel management through the cleaning of land and the cutting and removal of plant biomass therein," according to the Chamber of Olhão.
The authorities will also seek to convey the message that “the prevention of forest fires must be practiced in a timely and intelligent manner”.
"With these actions, it is intended to promote and foster good agricultural practices and, above all, to convey a message of civic duty in the generalized prevention of forest fires, based on the premise that the forest belongs to everyone and that it is up to everyone to preserve and protect .
Today and tomorrow, on the 14th and 15th of March, the civil protection agents from Olhano and the GNR will be in Moncarapacho. "The awareness actions take place in the other parishes of the municipality of Olhão in the following days, depending on availability and verified needs," added the municipality.
This tour is part of the Municipal Plan for the Defense of the Forest Against Fire, which «includes the necessary measures for the defense of the forest, namely a set of prevention and integrated planning actions for the interventions of the different entities involved in the event of forest fires, in the aspects of planning and ordering of the forest territory, awareness, inspection, surveillance, detection, first intervention, combat, aftermath, post-fire surveillance and actions to recover burnt areas».
