Luísa Sobral is going to Cineteatro Louletano, this Saturday, at 21 pm, to present her latest album, in a concert that will have different moments and surprises for the public.

«This record has been super fun to play. Every concert has been different because the record has a lot of room for improvisation and for us to show our creativity. In Loulé, we have a surprise prepared. There are times when I make a version of a song that is in fashion, then there are other intimate ones and others for the public to participate», confesses the artist to Musical|Sul Informação.

The last and only time Luísa Sobral was in Loulé was to play at the newly awarded Festival MED. A concert and atmosphere that praises and remembers with pleasure.

«It was the coolest festival I've ever attended. It is very simple and the commitment of Loulé people to the festival. It's super organized, people go there for the music, it has a different and very familiar environment. As it was one of my first, it was very special for me and I went back there just for fun, because I loved it. It was the year that Silvia Pérez Cruz came,” he says.

“Luísa” is the composer's 4th album and where she dares to experiment with new formulas. After, in 2014, having ventured to explore his childhood in “Lu-Pu-I-Pi-Sa-Pa, in this one, he decided to cross the Atlantic and record the album in Los Angeles, in a register where the lyrics are, admittedly , more personal.

«It's called “Luísa” because it's more autobiographical, it's where I write more songs about myself. I feel this is the first of a new phase. In “Lu-Pu-I-Pi-Sa-Pa” I wrote about my childhood and more about characters, in this one I started to want to write more about my life», he explains.

The 12 songs of ”Luísa” were composed mostly on guitar and, being a personal record, the themes are divided between Portuguese, the mother tongue, English – 2nd language – (a reflection of the years she lived in New York) and even the French, site of a two-month cultural retreat.

Choosing a foreign producer may, at first glance, sound like eccentricity, but being a kind of musical advisor for the artist, it is an important part of the record's production and recording process, even when it's not a first album.

«When we already have some records, and this was the fourth, I think it's important to have someone who listens to my music and brings something new», says Luísa Sobral.

The choice fell on Joe Henry, winner of three Grammys, who also brought musicians who, by contributing to the arrangements, turned the album into a collaborative work.

«I thought it was important for him to be a singer-songwriter and when I heard his music I liked it. It wasn't the same as mine, but there was something I liked a lot, so I found this mixture of styles and different ways of seeing my music interesting», reveals Luísa Sobral.

The record was recorded in three and a half days, too little time for musicians who didn't know each other. There were themes recorded at first and, in one of them, Portuguese was not an obstacle for the message to get through, even to those who were not familiar with the language of Camões.

The final result is an effect of this partnership: “Alone” and “On My Own” are themes that were on the record at the producer's suggestion and are now one of the artist's favorites.

Recently Luísa Sobral accepted the challenge of composing a song for the Festival da Canção, “Amar dos Dois”, performed by her brother Salvador. The song came out victorious and will make its appearance at the Eurovision Festival in Kiev, Ukraine, on 9 May. «Victorious? Incredible! I never think of it that way, because we didn't enter as a competition, it was super fun. We were there with many friends», recalls the artist.

In the concert in Loulé Luísa Sobral is accompanied by Mário Delgado on guitar, João Salcedo on keyboards and piano, João Hasselberg on bass and double bass and Carlos Miguel Antunes on drums.

Tickets for the show cost 12 euros for the general public and 10 euros for people over 65 and under 30.
