The 32nd edition of FIMA – Algarve International Music Festival starts next Saturday, March 18, at 21 pm, at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro, with the opening concert entitled “Ode à Alegria”.

The Orquestra Clássica do Sul (OCS) will be directed by the principal conductor Rui Pinheiro and presents the monumental Ninth Symphony by Beethoven, together with the Lisbon Cantat Symphonic Choir and the soloists Carla Simões, Cátia Moreso, João Cipriano and Nuno Araújo Pereira, to sing the “Ode à Alegria” by the poet Schiller, which inspires this work, and which breaks out in the final tempo.

In this process, the universal message is consolidated in a hymn that calls for the fraternity of peoples. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 was composed at a time when he was already completely deaf and in a certain aesthetic isolation, which reflected more monumental attitudes and greater formal freedom.

In this concert, the world premiere of the work “Eu.Rope” by Luís Soldado, associated composer of the OCS, stands out. Inspired by George Steiner's book “The idea of Europe”, the author reflects on what it means to be European, in a globalized world, and how Europe will have to look at its cultural and intellectual heritage in order to reinvent itself .

The month of March also presents two concerts with OCS, on the 25th, at Teatro Mascarenhas Gregório, in Silves, with the chamber music program “Noite Transfigurada”, and, on the 31st, the event “Food Symphony”, with the Chef Osvalde Silva and OCS at Conrad Algarve (located in Quinta do Lago), partner of this festival.

After its last production, in 2009, the FIMA is resumed this year, marking the 32nd edition of this one of the oldest festivals in the country, dedicated to classical music.

The program includes the holding of 20 concerts throughout the regional territory, between the months of March and May, with the collaboration of municipalities and other entities in the Algarve for the use of the various auditoriums in the region, being financed by the 365 Algarve program.

This edition of FIMA also has other strategic partners, such as Rentauto, Torrié and BOL.
