The head of the West jetty at Barra do Guadiana, in Vila Real de Santo António, collapsed due to bad weather on Thursday, 16 February, and took the farolim it was installed there. However, a temporary lantern has already been placed to signal the jetty.

The accident led the Captaincy of the Port of VRSA to establish a warning to navigators "with a 100 meter guardrail at the pier". The entities responsible for the pier, the Port Authority and the General Directorate of Natural Resources, Security and Maritime Services, were alerted by the National Maritime Authority (AMN).

According to AMN, the Port Authority is responsible for the jetty and the farolim, it started steps to restore the situation in definitive terms».

«In the sphere of competence of the Captain of Porto, he requested support from the Navy, so that the Hydrographic Institute could sound out the navigation channel. The Lighthouse Directorate was asked to place a temporary lantern to signal the jetty," added the Maritime Authority.
