Registration for the Camellia Route, which will take place in Monchique, on the 19th of February, from 9:30 am, is open until the 16th. The event is included in the III Festival of Camellias.

The meeting point for this Camellia Route will be Largo de São Sebastião.

This pedestrian walk, with about 4 kilometers, takes place in the outskirts of the town of Monchique and in some parts of the urban agglomeration, where you can see sets of these plants in a natural environment, and private gardens and the largest collection will also be visited. camellias from the Algarve.

It was the Portuguese discoverers who brought Cameleira from the East (also called Japoneira in some parts of the country and whose scientific name is Camellia japonica), thus paving the way for a proliferation throughout the country and also in Spain.

Centuries later, the camellia is an important element of the landscape, having been mostly planted in beautiful stately gardens, feeding and illuminating the passion and soul of families.

The Serra de Monchique, which is also called Jardim do Algarve, is the southernmost part of the country where there are camellias, delicate plants that need special conditions of climate and soil.
