The discussion about the approved hole off Aljezur, for prospecting for hydrocarbons by the ENI/GALP consortium, will arrive at the Assembly of the Republic on 23 February.

A petition by ASMA?A, which was filed in June 2016, will be discussed on this day at the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Innovation and Public Works. During the hearing, a demonstration is scheduled in front of the AR, starting at 14:00.

ASMAA explains that the decision was taken "even taking into account our unexpected discovery during a routine internet search on 26 January 2017 that DGRM had already authorized the TUPEM license on 11 January" and adds that "This authorization from TUPEM took ASMAA by surprise because there was an open line of communication between the association and the rapporteur of the petition."

At that time, ASMAA “was still waiting to have access to the responses of the Minister of the Sea and the DGRM to the requests for information made by the petition's rapporteur on 14 December, but which to date had not been given”. Therefore, a petition is underway to ask the Minister of the Sea and the DGRM for answers.

For ASMAA, this hearing “is not only an opportunity, but also a fair way to represent the 42,000 people who opposed the issuance of TUPEM's license to the Galp/ENI consortium”.
