Choreographer, educator and cultural programmer Madalena Victorino has just been awarded the 2017 University of Coimbra Prize.

Madalena Victorino, with Giacomo Scalisi, is responsible for the project «till the sea», which, for three years, brings to Aljezur and Monchique, and possibly to Odemira, a set of shows and artistic residencies.

The «Lavrar o Mar» project, part of the 365 Algarve programme, started in November, in Aljezur, with the «Peep&Eat» gastronomic theater shows, and continued in December, in Monchique, with the new circus of a french company. This year, and until the end of May, there are many more activities planned.

The University of Coimbra Prize, worth 25 thousand euros, distinguishes a personality of Portuguese nationality who has asserted himself for a particularly relevant and innovative intervention in the areas of culture or science.

The award, created in 2004, has already distinguished the food critic José Quitério, the former dean of the University of Lisbon Sampaio da Nóvoa, the filmmaker Pedro Costa, the musician and composer António Pinho Vargas, the scientist Maria de Sousa, the professor of chemistry Adélio Mendes and plastic artist Julião Sarmento, among other names.

The prize for this year's edition will be awarded on March 1, during the solemn commemorative session of the 727th anniversary of the University of Coimbra.
