Emergency Hospital of Faro 2016_4The PSD Algarve says that the National Health Service (SNS) in the region is "on the brink of chaos" and criticizes the "timely change" of yesterday's visit by Secretary of State for Health Manuel Delgado, replacing Adalberto Campos Fernandes, minister of health.

In a statement, the Algarve Social Democrats believe that the possible extinction of the Centro Hospitalar do Algarve (CHA), announced yesterday by Manuel Delgado, "although it may eventually alleviate some bottlenecks, it will not determine the existence of more doctors, more nurses and better working conditions for all health professionals."

On the contrary, says the PSD Algarve, «the announcement of the construction of the new Central Hospital in the Algarve» would give «a prospect of improving conditions for the provision of hospital healthcare in the region».

Just yesterday, Cristóvão Norte, Algarve deputy of the PSD, announced that he had sent a letter to Adalberto Campos Fernandes, asking for the construction of the promised Central Hospital.

For their part, in the communiqué issued today, the Algarve Social Democrats regret that this work will not advance "during the present legislature". "This will be a promise to be made, if the contraption lasts until then, towards the end of 2019", adds this party. It is recalled that the construction of the Hospital Central do Algarve was suspended by the previous PSD/CDS government.

In the statement, the PSD presents 2016 data from the Central Administration of the Health System, to support its thesis, such as the fact that the CHA has «the second highest mortality rate among 40 hospitals in the country, at 8,2 » or «the worst average delay rate in the country, of 9,3».

«This is, unfortunately, the harsh reality of the Algarve that the parties that support the Government refuse to comment – meaning PS, Left Bloc and PCP – and for which the minister of tutelage does not even deign to send it to in its place, its Secretary of State», concludes the statement from the PSD/Algarve.
