New Year's Eve «is a brand» in the municipality of Albufeira and the New Year's Eve 2017 is creating 'very high expectations'. Carlos Silva e Sousa, mayor, promises “a very vast program” that seeks to “integrate everything, beauty, art, culture and show a cohesive council from the coast to the interior”.
In statements to the Sul Informação, the mayor says that he still does not know the expected hotel occupancy figures for the end of the year, but the prospects are good: «we have a large program, from New Year's Eve, with fireworks and great artists, such as Áurea and the DAMA, we have the Medieval Paderne, the Solrir. In Guia, there are fairs and a nativity scene with extraordinary sculptures, beautiful to see. There will also be entertainment in Oura, the hotels will also have their own parties, with fireworks. It's a great date for Albufeira, which marks the end of what is terrible in the whole Algarve, which is seasonality».
Over there will be five days of activities in the county. Praia dos Pescadores will once again receive New Year's Eve concerts, on the night of December 31st. Áurea is the first to take the stage, at 22:30 pm, and the show will only be interrupted by the countdown to the farewell of the year and the fireworks. After midnight, the DAMA act.
At midnight, anyone in the area of Areia de S. João and Oura will also be able to watch the fireworks that will be launched at Praia da Oura. But, according to the Municipality of Albufeira, «it will not only be the sky that will be illuminated, Avenida Sá Carneiro will be covered by circus artists, who promise to surprise with performances and numbers of great visual impact at the Star Parade».
However, the end-of-year celebrations, in the municipality of Albufeira, start on the 29th of December with Paderne Medieval. The municipality of Albufeirense says that “for four days, the village of Barrocal in the Algarve goes back in time and welcomes close to 10 visitors who will have the opportunity to walk the streets of Paderne in a unique environment. The old core of the village is transformed into a medieval market with dancing, historical recreations, arts and crafts demonstrations, medieval delicacies and lots of entertainment, which lead thousands of visitors on a true journey through time».
For the first day of the year, and the last of Medieval Paderne, the historic parade is scheduled, at 15 pm, which portrays the ceremony for the delivery of the Letter of Donation to Paderne, which this year celebrates 00 years. The event opens at 712:12 pm and closes at 00:21 pm, with the exception of December 00, when it ends at 31:19 pm.
On December 29th Solrir also starts, a humor festival that this year takes to the stage of the Congress Palace of the
Algarve, in Salgados, comedians like Herman José, Aldo Lima, Nilton, Serafim, Zé Pedro, or Moce dum
Halter. The event takes place on December 29th and 30th and returns on January 1st and 2nd, with sessions at 21 pm.
