The Algarvian politician and jurist was also a deputy to the Assembly of the Republic between 1975 and 1991, without interruption.

Born in Almancil in a family with few possessions, Cristóvão Guerreiro Norte was forced to abandon his studies after completing 4th grade, due to the death of his father. Later, he returned to school, having graduated in Law from the University of Coimbra. Was Delegate of the Attorney General of the Republic and Registrar of the Registry in several Algarve counties.

Alongside his professional activity, he had a very active political life. After the 25th of April, he helped found the PPD/PSD in the Algarve and was the head of this party's list in the region, in the first free elections, held in 1975, which elected the Constituent Assembly. He ended up being the only member of his party to be elected by the circle of Faro.

After that, he was elected again to the position of deputy to the AR, which he held for 16 years, many times. In this role, he fought for several “flags” of the Algarve, presenting numerous bills, among which, in co-authorship with José Vitorino, the creation of the University of the Algarve stands out.

The date and place of the funeral ceremonies are not yet known.

Meanwhile, the PSD/Algarve has already reacted to the death of its founder, stressing that Cristóvão Norte, "although he is currently away from active politics, was still one of the most important voices of the Algarve's social democrats", being "recognized by him the an important role it had in consolidating the democratic regime in our country and in the defense and affirmation of the superior interests of the Algarve and the Algarve».

The District Political Commission of the PSD adds that, «for his contribution to Portuguese Democracy, Cristóvão Norte, recently, in April of this year, was awarded the title of Honorary Deputy of the Assembly of the Republic, within the scope of the commemorations of the 40th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic. Portuguese Republic".

For the Social Democrats, it was «a distinction deserved by the role he played in the Constituent Assembly of 1975, in which he helped to create the Constitution and consolidate the democratic regime after the Carnation Revolution, having been elected by the Algarve and in which his solid academic training, and recognized tenacity, earned him a place in the important Standing Committee, which brought together the hard core of the fathers of the Portuguese Constitution, respectively Jorge Miranda, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Freitas do Amaral and Vital Moreira».

Among its contributions to the Algarve, the PSD highlights «the impulse that Cristóvão Norte gave to the opening of the University of Algarve, for the construction of Via do Infante».

In relation to the land from which he was born, «and which he loved so much», the PSD/Algarve emphasizes the fact that «it was the author of the Project-Law that raised the then village of Almancil, seat of Parish, to the category of Vila» .

As for his contribution to the Social Democratic Party, in addition to the numerous positions he held at regional and local level, he highlighted “his role as the promoter of one of the party's biggest national festivities, the Festa do Pontal, which marks annually in August , a return national policy'.
