Olhão at the Santarém Gastronomy Fair_1Seafood from the Ria Formosa, aromatic herbs from the Algarve and other regional reference products served as the basis for the various dishes that made the mouth water of those who visited the National Gastronomy Festival, in Santarém, on Monday.

The Chamber of Olhão was the organization's special guest, on the last day of the event, and took with it a lot of seafood, but also ethnography and even humor in the style of Olhão.

Throughout the day, there were several moments of entertainment, with gastronomy serving as the basis for the entire program devised by the municipality of Olho. And it couldn't be otherwise, bearing in mind that this is the theme of the Scalabitan fair. Thus, two cooking demonstration sessions were held, hosted by Chef Flávio Marques of the Hotéis Real group, followed by a cocktail where there was no shortage of Algarve wine.

Between tasting what had been made at the time and what Flávio Marques had already prepared in advance, the Rancho Folclorico de Moncarapacho, dressed up, showed how to dance the Corridinho. There was also time for theatre, more precisely for the play “Mê menine, and tu Mãe?”, in which João Evaristo and Joaquim Parra personify two fishermen from Olhão, Zé and Janica, in a show full of humour.

At the end, and after serving a cataplana full of seafood, there were smiles and praise from those who tasted the dishes. After all, it's not every day that you learn to cook dishes such as «Breaded shrimp hedgehog in fidena pasta with fragateira sauce», «Citrus risotto with fan and lobster scallops» or «Red sea bass with tomato and clam syrup , orange air, bivalve and seaweed sauce'.
