center-of-living-science-of-algarveThe year is not over yet, but the record for the annual turnout of the Live Science Center of the Algarve, in Faro, has already been beaten, in the eleven months that have elapsed in 2016.

The center surpassed the threshold of 14.655 visitors last week, during the commemorations of the Science and Technology Week, a "historic milestone" for this institution, which has been dedicated to disseminating science for nearly two decades. Since 2002, when it is no longer the only CCV in the region, this target has not been achieved.

“The year 2016 will be, in fact, a golden year. After being considered one of the five best known Science Centers in Portugal, based on a study coordinated by the University of Lisbon, the CCV do Algarve will close the year with the highest number of visitors in the last 13 years», summarized the center.

This record was broken in a year in which the center renovated its exhibition area, relying largely on their own means and the "silver of the house".

For CCV do Algarve, the establishment of a new annual turnout record «is proof of the vitality of this Science Centre, which was the first of the Ciência Viva Centers network to open to the public and which next summer will celebrate 20 years of activity» .

Algarve Living Science Center_10«This vitality is also evident in the strong commitment that the Center has had in opening up its action to the community, going beyond the historic building itself (it was the 1st power station in the Algarve) where it is installed. Out of doors, this year alone, more than 12.000 participants have been involved in CCVAlg's actions», illustrated the institution.

Taking into account the numbers achieved, even with the «difficulty in modernizing some of the building's features in view of the national economic context, the CCVAlg faces the future with optimism».

«To this end, new sources of income have been sought, such as the development of educational products. Recently, a digital card book about the Ria Formosa and a kit of postcards with 3D illustrations were launched. Partnerships have also been established and strengthened that allow to overcome these adversities and that indirectly contribute positively to the region's development”, according to the Farense Science Center.

Before the end of the year, there will still be more innovations, including a partnership between CCV do Algarve and the company JP-IK, which will provide the center with various IT equipment.

«These technological means will now be integrated into the recreational and educational offer of the Center and used in studies on the integration of ICT in education to be developed by the Centre's team», concluded the CCV do Algarve.
