The boat is 100 percent electric and its energy is drawn from the sun, but it will be under the stars that those who join the «Night ride in a solar boat» initiative of the Algarve Living Science Center will sail, in Faro, taking place on Saturday, from 20:30.

If you prefer, you can also enjoy the beauty of the Ria Formosa during the day, on Sunday, aboard one of the electric boats built by the Algarve company Sun Concept, to participate in the «Underwater acoustics in a solar boat» initiative.

The two activities proposed by CCV do Algarve are part of the Science and Technology Week 2016, taking place between 21 and 27 November. Its objective is to show that there are already clean alternatives to traditional boats, which use fossil fuels, and which are even produced in the region, more precisely in the company's shipyards in Olhão.

On Saturday, "several night trips" will be promoted on a solar boat, which is not stopped just because there is no sun, thanks to the technology that the Sun Concept vessels integrate. These trips depart from Cais da Porta Nova, on the same street as the CCV do Algarve.

On Sunday, from 10:00 am, leisure and science are joined, «on short walks in the Ria Formosa on the same boat, where we will test recording techniques with a hydrophone». «The idea is to compare this type of vessel and conventional vessels, in terms of noise levels produced in the underwater environment. On the other hand, we also want to test the possibility of operating with underwater acoustic techniques from the Sunsailer», according to CCV do Algarve.
