Vila Real de Santo Antônio ChamberThe Municipal Property Tax (IMI) will be lowered in Vila Real de Santo António in 2017 for urban buildings. The rate will go from 0,50% to 0,45%, which, according to the Chamber of VRSA, will allow “a savings for citizens of several thousand euros”.

As the municipality explains, «this option was made with the tax burden on households in mind, since, as the municipality is covered by the Municipal Support Fund (FAM), it could determine that the maximum rate of municipal tax could be set at 0,50%, having however opted to lower this value and adopted exceptional internal savings measures to face this reduction in revenue».

The Chamber says it is making "a financial effort to reduce the tax burden applied to Vila Realenses, placing itself, once again, on the side of families, as an example of this is the offer of school books to all students of the first. cycle or the “Care” eye care programme”.

The municipality of Vila Real explains, by way of example, that "a family with a property with a tax value of 100 euros, which would previously pay 500 euros/year in IMI, will now pay 450 euros, which represents an effective saving of 50 euros'.

The measure has already been approved at the Chamber meeting and the Municipal Assembly and takes into account the provisions of number 18 of article 112 of the Municipal Property Tax Code (CIMI).

The municipality of Vila Real de Santo António also approved a 30% increase in the IMI rate for degraded urban buildings in the historic area of the city.

The remaining fees and taxes will be fixed at the same values as in 2016: the IMI for rustic buildings will be 0,8%; the surcharge of 1,5% on the corporate income tax and the variable participation rate of the IRS by 5%.

The Chamber of Portimão, which is also covered by the FAM, also announced last week that will download IMI for the year 2017, something that the opposition of PSD considered it "a swindle".
