A gang, made up of three men, who guarded bank customers to steal the money they raised, was arrested this Tuesday, as part of an inquiry led by the Public Ministry (DIAP de Faro). These crimes were mainly committed in the Algarve.
According to a statement from the Public Ministry, “in question are facts that have occurred on at least 14 different occasions since March 2015. Those now detained would systematically monitor bank branches located mainly in the Algarve, in order to detect customers who raised more significant amounts. There are suspicions that they would then discreetly follow the victims to their respective vehicles and, after checking where they kept the amounts raised, they would wait for them to leave and break into the vehicles to retrieve the money and other valuables».
The defendants were present this Thursday to the investigating judge who applied, to two of them, the measure of coercion of preventive detention and the rest were prohibited from establishing contacts and leaving their area of residence.
The inquiry will continue its terms directed by the 2nd section of Faro (specialized) of DIAP. The investigation is being carried out by the criminal investigation nucleus of the territorial command of Faro of the Republican National Guard.
