EHTA students win medals in LondonStudents from the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School brought two gold and silver medals from the European Hotel and Tourism Competitions, which took place in London.

In what is the biggest competition at European level between hotel and tourism schools, Mariana Rita (Tourism Management) and Mircea Coban (Hotel Management – Accommodation) won the gold medal, while Duarte Oliveira (Hotel Management of Restaurants and Beverages) and Alexandra Martins (Kitchen Management and Production) brought with them silver medals.

The competition brought together 250 students from 22 schools from different countries in Europe. Portugal was represented by 10 students from various hotel schools in the country, who brought with them 10 medals, in the 12 professional areas in the competition. The Algarve grouping (Faro and VRSA) was the one that won the most awards.

“It was a spectacular experience because we got to know people from the environment who could be decisive in our future. I felt that our eyes were on us, which could be very important», illustrated Mariana Rita, 19, after winning gold.

Mircea Coban, 23, left clues to the success of Portuguese students. «Our training in Portugal is much more demanding than in other European schools. I realized this when, at the end of one of the tests, one of the judges told me that there was a huge difference in my performance compared to the other competitors», he said.

The student of the Hotel Management – Accommodation course considered the gold medal that he won «the reward for the effort and commitment spent throughout the course and in the different jobs I've performed in the hotel industry».

The results obtained in the 29th edition of the European Hotel and Tourism Competitions, an event organized by the AEHT – European Association of Hotel and Tourism Schools, were the best ever for our country. «This European recognition further reinforces the quality of the training provided at the Schools of Tourism in Portugal», considered Paula Vicente, director of the Hotel and Tourism School of the Algarve.
