Good Hope CaravelThe Boa Esperança caravel, a replica of the vessels used by the Portuguese discoverers in the XNUMXth century, sails, in October, through Spanish waters to dock in various ports in Galicia.

At the helm is the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) which, with this initiative, aims to promote the attractions of the Algarve to the Spanish public throughout the year.

RTA, in partnership with Nao Victoria Foundation, a Spanish non-profit organization, travels to Galicia on one of the most emblematic boats in the history of Portugal.

After having docked in Andalusia in September, the caravel Boa Esperança began its route through Galicia on the 9th in A Coruña, now heading to Baiona (from 13th to 16th October) and then to Vigo (20th to 23rd).

The vessel will make short stops at all ports, where it will be moored for a few days to provide the public with free visits and closer contact with the history of the Algarve and its tourist attractions.

«The Algarve has been promoting itself in the neighboring country in a more original way, in order to stimulate the interest of the Spanish public in the region's tourist offer throughout the year. Spain continues to be one of the main source markets, which, until July this year, was responsible for 446 thousand overnight stays in the region», explains Desidério Silva, president of RTA.

«We want to make known the strong connection between the Algarve and the sea, but also its history and gastronomy that can be savored in each of these places in the showcookings of algarvian cataplana aboard the caravel, destined for the trade, press and local official entities», adds Desidério Silva.

This replica of the Caravel of the Discoveries, built by specialists who respected the rules of shipbuilding from the XNUMXth century, was the ship of Moorish origin chosen by D. Henrique for his maritime adventures.

With it, the Portuguese sailors managed, in the 23,8th century, to round the Cape of Good Hope, the mythical Cape of Tormentas, and open the sea route to the East. It measures 6,6 meters in length and XNUMX meters in width.
