Good Hope CaravelThe Boa Esperança caravel, which is on a mission to promote the Algarve destination through the ports of Galicia, was in the news in that Spanish region, but not for the best reasons. Upon arrival at the port of Vigo, when trying to dock, on Tuesday, an engine problem caused the vessel to lose control and hit a crosswalk, destroying it.

According to the newspaper Faro de Vigo, who publishes a video of the incident, shared on Twitter by the Port Authority “the events took place around 20 pm, when the boat was maneuvering to dock at the head of the jetty and suffered an engine failure”.

The Boa Esperança caravel «could not avoid the attack of the bow against the aluminum structure, which dismantled in seconds».

According to the same periodical, "the crossing to extend the berth for cruises was rescued from the bottom of the sea by a crane and will now be repaired on land, after the damage caused by the Portuguese caravel Boa Esperança."

Contacted by Sul Informação, Desidério Silva, president of the Algarve Tourism Region, responsible for the mission, downplayed what happened saying that «it was an incident and there were no problems, it was soon resolved».

Despite the collision, according to the official, the caravel was not damaged.
