The SOS Ria Formosa/Je Suis Ilhéu Movement was summoned to a hearing at the Assembly of the Republic's Environment, Spatial Planning, Decentralization, Local Government and Housing Commission, scheduled for September 29, at 12:30 pm.

According to the Movement, this call is due "to the petition delivered by us, on January 20, 2016, which seeks to preserve the Ria Formosa and immediately suspend demolitions".

To "defend our cause", there will be "a presentation and we will then be questioned by the representatives of each party with a parliamentary seat", explains SOS Ria Formosa, in a statement.

The movement announces that "it will take the opportunity to show all its discontent as this process is being carried out" and recalls that "on February 12 a draft resolution was approved that mentioned the principle of equality and recognition of all the historic centers of the barrier islands" .

The movement also invokes an article published yesterday by the newspaper Correio da Manhã, which reports that «once again the government intends to safeguard the housing nucleus of Culatra, forgetting the Hangars and the Farol", which, he stresses, "leads us to believe that the policy of dividing and reigning is maintained".

“We will remind the Government that all the nuclei are historic. All families affected by the threat of demolitions are descendants of those who built the essential foundations for that island and beyond, who built the jetty, the bar and the Farol, who supported a hangar that served World War II, people who had leprosy and who were sent to this no man's land so as not to risk further contagion». «It seems that the government has forgotten that it was the Portuguese State that gave us this house to live in», but, stresses SOS Ria Formosa, «we will remember all this».

The fact that this petition has reached more than 4000 signatures will necessarily imply that the matter is discussed in plenary in the Assembly of the Republic. "Contrary to what will happen on Thursday, when only one delegation will travel to Lisbon, on that day we will certainly be present in strength, showing our unity."
