Launch There is UV at Praia 7 Since August 1st it is possible to know if "There is UV on the Beach" da Rocha and Praia do Vau. The project was developed within the Manuel Teixeira Gomes School Group, in Portimão, using data collected by the meteorological station installed there.

Throughout the day, through signaling flags with its own colors and a smartphone application, the project alerts to the danger of ultraviolet radiation, as well as indicates the appropriate behavior at each level of the iUV.

A placard explaining the different colors of the flags, the behavior appropriate to each color, as well as a QR code that allows downloading the Android application, which provides users with notifications of the variation of the iUV, is posted next to each participating dealership/beach.

The inauguration of the “Há UV na Praia” project, on the 1st of August, was attended by representatives of the various entities involved in the initiative, namely the councilor for Culture and Sport of Portimão Ana Fazenda, the Chief of the Maritime Police, Adérito Pereira, the president of the Parish of Portimão, Álvaro Bila, the representative of the board of AEMTG Conceição Barros, the representative of the HPA group Lara Chêta, the representative of the Rotary Club of Praia da Rocha Hugo Pinto, in addition to the teachers involved in the project, of the participating concessionaires and lifeguards who, in addition to updating the flag, will provide clarifications to bathers.Launch There is UV at Praia 3

The project will run until the end of the 2016 bathing season and, at the end, an evaluation will be carried out, which will involve the AEMTG students. “We would very much like to extend this project, which we believe is educational and of great public utility, to other beaches in the future, but this depends on sponsorship and implies the establishment of new partnerships. We are teachers at the Public School, which is faced with successive cuts in funding. It was very difficult to launch this project, it involved a lot of work, and it was only possible to raise these flags with a great team spirit», says Elsa Condeço, Geography professor at AEMTG.

The project team is made up of the AEMTG Geography professors (Francisco Pereira – coordinator; Isabel Pereira; Isabel Baptista; Elsa Condeço; Ana Vicente and Catarina Pimenta), the AEMTG Computer Science professor Mário Nogueira, and the Visual Arts professor Pedro Cabo, currently a professor at ESPAMOL, in Lagoa.
