FAP helicopterA crew member of the merchant ship “Cecilia”, sailing about 30 miles northwest of Cape S. Vicente, was rescued this morning by the FAP EH-101 helicopter, which transported him safe and sound to Lisbon.

The alert was given by the Maritime Traffic Control Center of the Mainland, reporting that one of the crew of that merchant ship, flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda, had fallen from a height of three meters and was suffering from bleeding in the face, pain and possible head trauma.

The INEM – Guidance Center for Urgent Patients at Sea (CODU-Mar) assessed the medical evacuation as urgent and immediately sent the resources to the location.

The rescue was made by a FAP EH-101 helicopter, which rescued the crew at 10:35 am, having landed at Lisbon airport at 11:33 am. The crew member was then transported by INEM to the Hospital de Santa Maria, in a stable situation.

The operation was coordinated by the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisbon), in conjunction with the Portuguese Air Force (FAP) and CODU-Mar.
