Ambassador United KingdomThe UK ambassador to Portugal Kirsty Isobel Hayes visited São Brás de Alportel yesterday to reassure the council's British community about the Brexit.

The City Council of São Brás de Alportel explains that “in a municipality made up of around 11% of resident foreigners, from different nationalities, the British community still having the greatest expression, this representative of Her Majesty and the British Government met with the Mayor [Vítor Guerreiro] underlining his willingness to maintain good relations with the country and the municipality».

After the meeting with the mayor, there followed a meeting with British inhabitants of São Brás de Alportel, in the hall of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia, "in order to reassure them about the future".

The Chamber of São Brás de Alportel reveals that at this meeting, the ambassador considered that the situation of Brexit "does not need great excitement for now" and that, "the union between England and Portugal is much older than the European Union and not it will in no way be called into question, but the construction of a new path of conciliation between the two countries must now begin”.
