the child with aspergerA practical workshop for parents of children with Asperger syndrome will take place next Saturday, June 4th, at Asas – Clinic for Therapeutic Support, in Portimão.

It is an essentially practical workshop, aimed at parents, with the objective of «helping them to better understand some characteristics inherent to the Syndrome, which compromise a reciprocal and mutually contingent interaction», explains the psychologist responsible for the Clinic.

The idea is to help parents understand that each child, with or without Asperger, has its own specific sensitivity and, therefore, each one has a specific reactivity and tolerance to the different sensory stimuli that the environment presents.

"We will realize that there are activities that are tolerable by some children, but not tolerable by others, and this will allow for a greater adaptation to the needs of each child."

When their sensory needs are respected, it is much easier to help the child to tolerate given stimuli and thus contribute to greater confidence in social interactions with others.

«For example: did you know that a simple exercise, such as pretending that we are going down a river, full of currents and events that make us speed up and slow down our imaginary boat, can have a huge impact on the self-regulation level of a child with Asperger? Come find out why and what are the guidelines for introducing this activity to your child with AS! Playing…it is also taught», concludes Asas – Therapeutic Support Clinic.

Entries are limited, cost 37,50 euros, including a practical manual for parents. The workshop will last for 3 hours.
