LAMAThe project «Leôncio e Lena», by LAMA Associação Cultural, from Faro, is the 1st winner of the contest Invitation to Creation, launched by AZUL-Rede de Teatros do Algarve, founded this year. João de Brito's work by actor and director João de Brito will receive production support in the amount of 7 euros.

«The project “Leôncio e Lena” is a creation that includes previous sessions of sharing and collaborative research with cultural and artistic agents from the Algarve community. There will be a period of conception and preparation of the show that explores the literary universe of Georg Büchner, making an analogy with the Algarve Sotavento/Barlavento binomial and taking the form of an orchestrated conference with a strong visual component», according to the AZUL network.

At the end of the project, a documentary video will be made about the entire creative process.

In return for this support, LAMA (Laboratory of Arts and Media of the Algarve) will have to promote a presentation of the show in each of the theaters belonging to the network (Albufeira, Faro, Lagoa, Lagos, Loulé, Olhão, Portimão, S. Brás de Alportel, Silves and Tavira), «on a continuous and regular basis between October 2016 and March 2017».

«The place of the first presentation is chosen by drawing lots, and the sequencing of the remaining spaces of itinerancy of the creation is defined by the Network in a logic of geographic diversification/alternation», added the organizers of the competition.

The project Invitation to Creation was launched on January 9th, the day the Azul network was formally introduced. AZUL joins the municipalities of Albufeira, Faro, Lagoa, Lagos, Loulé, Olhão, Portimão, S. Brás de Alportel, Silves and Tavira. The competition is held in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve.

In this first edition, nine cultural structures in the region competed to support the creation. «After the assessment of the various creations presented by non-profit cultural associative structures, with an amateur nature and legal personality, based in the Algarve, the jury, composed of Dália Paulo (representing the AZUL network), Anabela Afonso (representative of the University of Algarve) , Cristina Farias (representative of the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve), António Pinto Ribeiro (programmer and cultural manager) and Tiago Guedes (programmer, cultural manager and current director of the Municipal Theater of Porto Rivoli and Campo Alegre), selected the LAMA proposal , taking into account its originality and creativity, its focus on exploring, in the light of a contemporary perspective, the Algarve's reality, its imaginary and symbolic universes (identities, diversities, alterities), as well as its commitment to a logic of co -production», explained the AZUL network.

«With the implementation of this invitation to creation, Rede AZUL intends to meet three of its central objectives: the promotion and enhancement of artistic creation and the production of innovative and differentiating projects in the Algarve in the areas of performing arts; the creation of conditions for an effective, concerted and efficient circulation of artistic creation in various parts of the Algarve, giving it more stages, reaching more audiences and thus having a broader and more diversified impact and feedback; and the stimulus to amateur structures based in the region for new artistic and creative challenges», he added.
