Portimão hospital5Work stress and bullying in the workplace, its consequences and how they can be prevented, will be the subject of a debate that will take place in the auditorium of the Hospital de Portimão, this Thursday, at 14 pm.

The initiative is organized by the Portuguese Nurses Union and the Union of Workers in Public and Social Functions in the South and the Autonomous Regions, who hope to find, together, «organizational and individual strategies to be implemented, in order to create a favorable environment for the practice, that offers a safe and healthy workplace, also contributing to greater productivity and better care for users'.

The session will be attended by the Nurse Director of the Hospital Center of the Algarve, and representatives of APAV - Portuguese Association for Victim Support, the Authority for Working Conditions and the Commission for Equality between Women and Men/CGTP-IN.

«Recent studies show that more than 850 thousand workers have already been the target of psychological harassment and about 59% suffer from work stress, with an increasing trend in recent years. Naturally, this reality cannot be dissociated from the degradation of socio-economic conditions, along with the scarcity of resources caused by the cuts, also in the Health sector», frame the event's organizers.

The choice of a hospital unit to debate this issue is justified by the unions with the observation that «the workers of the Centro Hospitalar do Algarve are also subject to harassment and stress, especially because they belong to the Health area».
