2015 is over, but the «European City of Sport» project still scores points in Loulé. The Municipality of Loulé inaugurated the Petanque Playing Fields “Escola de Loulé”, a new sports infrastructure located next to the Municipal Stadium of Loulé that will allow this sport to be practiced, night or day, in a playful but also competitive way.
"This space is composed of 8 playing fields, with various types of floor and wooden markings within the official measures, allowing the holding of regional, national and international tournaments and championships", according to the municipality.
Two poles with spotlights were also placed, "which will allow practice at night and the organization of tournaments at various times, allowing the organization to avoid high heat and encourage socializing".
The Chamber did not forget the urban part and contemplated the placement of benches in the corridors of the fields for the convenience of spectators during the games. Improvements were also made to the drainage of the entire area and painting work on the façade. "In the future, the intention is to build a porch so that games can be held on rainy days," he added.
«With this infrastructure, the Club de Petanque da Escola de Loulé has excellent conditions to practice this sport, and can develop dynamics in order to increase the number of practitioners, some of whom are retired people and who find in this practice an occupation of their free time », concluded the Chamber, stressing that this was « an old dream » of the members of this club.
