2016-106-104-anniversary-sco-exhibition-08The 104-year history of Olhanense is on display at four points in the city of Olhão, until April 29th. This exhibition commemorating the club's 104th anniversary was inaugurated on April 16 and is displayed in the Municipal Archive of Olhão, in the Municipality's entrance hall, in the club's Trophy Room, in José Arcanjo Stadium, and on Rua Almirante Reis (nº22 A), place where the minutes of the club's foundation were written.

The exhibition, under the responsibility of the Municipality, through its Municipal Archive, and Sporting Clube Olhanense (SCO), «is based on a symbiosis between the museum collection, belonging to the club, and the documentary collection produced during its activity, which remains currently in the custody of the Municipal Archive of Olhão», reveals the Chamber of Olhão.

According to the local authority, «when you visit the four exhibition centers, it will be possible to have a global vision of the club and its history from its foundation to the present day. Some documents are even being revealed to the public for the first time, thus revealing new information about this institution, which is an intrinsic part of the history of the city and of the people of Olho.

In 1924, the SCO lived the most glorious moment in its history, winning the title of champion of Portugal, "giving the greatest joy to its fans and the people of Olhão, raising the name of Olhão throughout the country", as you can read yourself on one of the exhibition panels.

2016-106-104-anniversary-sco-exhibition-07The Municipality of Olhão explains that “much of this success was due to the then president, Cândido do Ó Ventura, from Olhão, who, through his canning factories, invested in the team and elevated it to the category of champion. The historic victory by 4-2, against Futebol Clube do Porto, lasts in the memory of all who lived through that moment».

The history of SCO is «inseparable from the history of the city of Olhão and its development. It is this global and integrated reading that is proposed in this exhibition: “club and city, both born from the effort of a people against constant obstacles and challenges and successfully overcoming them”».

The inauguration of the exhibition was attended by the Mayor of Olhão, António Miguel Pina, and the President of the SCO, Isidoro Sousa. Both praised the various 'moments' of the exhibition, highlighting some documents now made known for the first time, thanks to the 'effort and dedication of the elements of the Municipal Archive of Olhão', thanking this work on behalf of all Olhão fans and fans.

“There would be more to show, but we show what we considered most emblematic. This partnership between the Chamber and the SCO was very rewarding. We were able to acquire new knowledge and transmit it to the public, because if it is not for showing, the knowledge is of little use», said Helena Vinagre, responsible for the Municipal Archive of Olhão, at the end of the inaugurations.
