Red Nose Day_1If tomorrow, March 18, you see people with big red noses in Portimão, at the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Secondary School or in the services of the City Council, don't be surprised: this is Red Nose Day.

It is an initiative that originated in England, in 1988, and since then it has not stopped growing. Thousands of people in the UK and countries on the African continent have already been supported. «What do you pay for it? Knowing that we are helping someone to give their life a better destiny», emphasize the organizers of the initiative at Escola Secundária Manuel Teixeira Gomes.

To make this day more fun, everyone is invited to buy a red nose, the symbolic gesture of this day, which is dedicated to carrying out various activities in order to raise monetary funds to support institutions, or in this case, create scholarships for needy students who have excellent grades, worthy of a Board of Merit and Excellence.

«Nowadays, having school supplies is an essential asset for the development of those who will be the future of our country and it is sad and disheartening to have students in school who cannot have all the school supplies in their possession», explain the organizers.

Manuel Teixeira Gomes Secondary School could not remain outside an initiative as captivating as this one, so a group of students decided to do it for the second time. In the previous year, they managed to raise around 600 euros just with the sale of cakes, the sale of noses and small donations.

This year, the event takes place throughout the Secondary School, with the traditional sales of cakes, juices and noses and also with some news, such as the LOL radio, which will broadcast music during breaks, coordinated by the LOL newspaper team, which organizes the event, together with the school and the School Library.

This year's edition was extended to the Portimão City Council, with the sale of noses in all municipal services.
