Main Church of OlhãoThe procession of Senhor Morto will tour the streets of Olhão this Friday, starting at 21 pm. The procession leaves the Igreja Matriz and passes through the main avenues and streets of the city of Olhão.

Following tradition, the procession will be headed by “Tombinho”, where Senhor Morto goes, followed by the stages of St. John the Evangelist, St. Mary Magdalene and Our Lady of Sorrows.

The Good Friday procession is one of the highlights of Easter celebrations in the municipality of Olhão, and is usually "very much attended by the faithful".

In 2016, the procession will be accompanied by the Fanfarra of the Municipal Firefighters of Olhão and by the 1º de Janeiro Philharmonic Band of Castro Verde.

After leaving the Igreja Matriz, the procession continues along Capitão Carlos Mendonça, Miguel Bombarda, João de Deus and Teófilo Braga streets before arriving at Praça Patrão Joaquim Lopes. After the blessing at the Municipal Markets, it continues on Avenida 5 de Outubro, Rua Francisco Fernandes Lopes, Carlos da Maia, João Lúcio and Vasco da Gama.

Towards the end of the ceremony, the procession enters Avenida da República in an ascending direction until the Palace of Justice, descending towards the Igreja Matriz, where the “Tombinho” of Senhor Morto will be located.

«The last stage of the route is only made by the remaining walks, in a very short route to the Igreja da Soledade. This procession of silence is for the Christians of Olhão and visitors a moment of respect and faith», framed the Chamber of Olhão.
