SOS PTSOS Oncológico, Algarve Palliative Care Unit and Team, celebrates its second anniversary in a solidarity dinner as a way to raise funds, on February 27th, at 20 pm, at the “O Chico Maria” restaurant in Portimão. It will cost 00 euros.

The non-profit organization, based in Lagoa, «aimed at supporting cancer patients and their families in terms of information, technical help and, in the future, in healthcare», says SOS Oncológico.

“For two years, the association has been carrying out awareness-raising actions at the headquarters and street actions through flyers, with information that we think is necessary, where some diseases are explained, their symptoms and how they can be treated later», said Maria José, nurse and member of SOS Oncológico, speaking to the Sul Informação.

The association “has also provided transport, for those who do not have it, to health services, through the support of the Câmara de Lagoa, and has made medicines available”. "You can help those looking for it," he added.

But SOS Oncológico has plans for the future. With this party, "we celebrate our existence, but at the same time we raise funds for the rehabilitation of a new space that will help SOS Oncológico to carry out consultations, promote their ideals and sell products, in order to be sustainable", also stressed the Nurse Maria José.

The dinner, of which 25% is raised, reverts to the association, brings together medical staff and cancer patients who, with their families, “enjoy the evening”. There will also be a show, whose theme is “O Fado and other dances”, with the performance of the fado singer Ondina Santos, accompanied by Carlos Tapadinhas (Portuguese guitar) and João Arrobe (viola). In the “other dances”, participate Paula Silva, with an oriental choreography, and André Carvalho with Ana Dias, in the ballroom dances.

Reservations are still open and can be made by calling: 962325862.

The event has the support of Reticências, an advertising company, pastry shop “Crocante” and restaurant “O Chico Maria”.

Last year, the initiative had the participation of 40 people, resulting in a fundraiser of 200 euros. “In addition to the dinner money, people also contribute whatever amount they think is necessary,” explains the organization.

During the rest of the year, support usually comes from regional companies and people who are willing to contribute. To help, just go to association page or to the page of SOS Oncologic facebook to find out about future awareness actions.
