Loulé City Council has ceded three stores located in the Forte Novo urbanization, in Quarteira, to the Vilamoura Lions Club, to Banco do Tempo and to the Grupo Coral de Quarteira.
With this measure, the municipality wants to continue the support it has been giving to associations and social institutions, «either through financial and logistical support, or by providing spaces for associations to carry out their projects and activities”, according to the Chamber.
“The job of a mayor is not just to do the works. This initiative allowed us to do a great deal of good, thanks to this collaboration among all», considered the mayor of Loulé Vítor Aleixo.
The Vilamoura Lions Club, established in 1988, is one of the hubs of the international Lions organization, which has more than 1,36 million members spread across more than 46 clubs. With community projects in more than 208 countries and regions, this organization «continues the guiding principles of the lions movement: helping the community in which they live», stated the Chamber. Banco do Tempo, which is already headquartered in Albufeira, is an international movement with a network of social support infrastructures created with the aim of promoting a sense of community, the meeting of people who live in the same spaces, collaboration between generations and «the construction of more human social relationships, as well as promoting the principles of volunteering ».
The Grupo Coral de Quarteira, was created in 2010, and has performed throughout the Algarve. It is directed by Professor Carlos Filipe Ferro de Sousa and has “a vast repertoire”.
