Albufeira can now resort to the Municipal Emergency Fund of 798 thousand euros

Albufeira City Council can now resort to the Municipal Emergency Fund to repair the damage caused by the floods on 1 November.

In the order published yesterday in Diário da República, finally authorizing the Municipality to use the fund, an investment of 798 thousand euros is foreseen, with a contribution of 478,8 thousand euros (60%), for the improvement of streets, roads and paths, rental vehicles, machinery and the repair of escalators at Praia dos Pescadores.

The repair of Avenida da Liberdade is the most expensive, with more than 317 thousand euros of the total investment being applied to this work. Secondly, there is the repair of the Mechanical Stairs at Praia dos Pescadores, valued at more than 200 thousand euros.

The Fund also considers investments in the replacement of damaged pavements to the west of Avenida 25 de Abril (84 thousand euros), the rental of vehicles with a driver and machines with an operator, for urgent urgent reasons (61,5 euros) and the replacement of damaged floors at the Nascente do Largo Eng.º Duarte Pacheco (134,5 thousand euros).

In the joint order of the Secretaries of State of Local Authorities and from the Budget, it is read that Albufeira «suffered significant damage to facilities for economic activities, infrastructure and other goods or equipment, following the storm of 1 November 2015».

The publication follows the recognition, by the Council of Ministers, on November 6th of last year, of the «exceptional weather conditions» that affected Albufeira. This decision thus allowed recourse to the Municipal Emergency Fund (FEM).

On February 2 of this year, CCDR Algarve had given its positive opinion to the Albufeires candidacy to the WEF.
