Museum Network Application2The Museum of Loulé submitted its application for accreditation in the Portuguese Museum Network, this Wednesday, at the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage.

The integration of this museological center into the national network was an objective assumed, for a long time, by the current municipal executive and forced a restructuring work, at different levels, carried out in the last two years.

In order to apply, the team from the Chamber's Culture and Heritage Division promoted the qualification and renovation of the museum, located in the heart of the historic center of Loulé.

Among the actions that were carried out were «the renovation of the synthesis exhibition of the headquarters nucleus with new framework texts, the placement of the texts of the synthesis exhibition of the headquarters nucleus in English, a new ticket office, the start of computerization and inventory the collection, the reorganization of the reserve, the preparation of mandatory documents for accreditation and the reinforcement of human resources with a conservation and restoration technician».

«With the integration in this network, the Loulé municipality intends to contribute to the qualification of this Museum, as well as to the creation of national and international synergies. On the other hand, it will allow the application for national and community funds destined exclusively for museums accredited in the Portuguese Network of Museums, and receive qualified technical support from the heritage guardianship, as well as qualify the museum's technical team, through training actions specialized», described the City Council of Loulé.

This application happens following the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the Museum of Loulé.

Loulé Museum«The Portuguese Museum Network is an organized system of museums, based on voluntary membership, configured in a progressive way and aimed at decentralization, mediation, qualification and cooperation between museums. It comprises the 142 museums that currently comprise it. The richness of its universe resides in the diversity of guardianships, collections, spaces and facilities, educational and cultural activities, models of relationship with communities and management systems

It is an essential instrument in the execution of the national museological policy and in the qualification of Portuguese museums. Its objectives are the enhancement and qualification of the national museological reality, institutional cooperation and articulation between museums, the decentralization of resources, planning and rationalization of public investments, resulting from the application of community funds, in museums, the dissemination of information regarding museums, the promotion of rigor and professionalism in museological practices and museographic techniques, the promotion of articulation between museums and the training value of their professionals.

As an articulation structure and communication and support platform for museums in the Portuguese Museum Network, the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage seeks to encourage the strengthening of the transversality of initiatives and communication between the Network's own museums and to support training, information / dissemination and qualification of the Network's museums, as it is legally responsible for, ensures the procedures leading to the accreditation of museums that intend to become part of the Portuguese Museum Network».
