Last weekend's storm, caused by the propagation of low pressure in the North Atlantic, generated a strong West-Northwest swell, with the Hydrographic Institute's monitoring network recording, in the ocean buoys of Nazaré and Leixões, waves of about 12 meters.
Thus, according to the IH, the Nazaré ocean buoy recorded a significant height of 6,6 meters at 16 pm on January 00th and a maximum height of 10 meters at 12,2 pm on January 23th.
On the other hand, the Leixões ocean buoy registered a wave of 11 meters at 00:11 am on January 11,3th.
High values of wind speed were also observed, with a maximum of about 86 km/h, in the Leixões ocean buoy.
Significant height represents the average of the top third of all waves analyzed over a period of time.
