A street market, in Praça 1º de Maio, on Sunday, January 3rd, and the traditional Cavalgada dos Reis Magos, in the afternoon of January 6th, are the two initiatives of the Castro Marim Parish Council aimed at «promoting the customs and traditions» of the village.
On Sunday, starting at 15 pm, Praça 00º de Maio, in Castro Marim, receives the Mercadinho, which will have musical entertainment with the Baila Som Group, performance by the Splash Dance Group, face painting, inflatables and a Doces workshop.
On Twelfth Night, the ride begins at 16:00 pm, concentrating on the village of Monte Francisco, and half an hour later on to Castro Marim, where the lively group of horsemen and mounts will arrive at 17:30 pm. Once there, you will be served Bolo-rei, Bolo Rainha and other delicacies.
The Cavalgada dos Reis Magos is a very popular festival in Spain, to celebrate the Epiphany, the biggest festivity in the Christmas calendar of the neighboring country. The fact that Castro Marim adopted this festival shows the links between the Algarve county and the other side of the border, on the east bank of the Guadiana River.
