Accident Ponte Nova do Arade_CarroOne of the occupants of a light vehicle that caught fire after colliding with a heavy goods vehicle at Ponte Nova do Arade, in Portimão, is missing after jumping into the Arade river. The two men who followed in the car that burned "threw themselves into the river and, so far, only one of them has been rescued", revealed the District Relief Operations Center (CDOS), contacted by Sul Informação.

The rescued man is the owner of the light vehicle, an Audi A6, which crashed, hit the bridge's side rail, ending up hitting the truck and setting itself on fire. According to witnesses, only the man who was rescued was seen in the water, having been the one to alert to the existence of a second occupant.

The GNR Criminal Investigation Nucleus has already assured that there were no charred bodies inside the car that caught fire. There is, moreover, no absolute certainty that there is, in fact, a disappeared person, since the testimony in this regard is from the confirmed victim, who was drunk.

The accident occurred at 5:25 am this morning and forced the total cut off of traffic on this bridge, which was still maintained at 1:XNUMX am today, Saturday. At that time, the means continued on the ground, both on land and in the river, as the search continued. The alleged victim, whose location remains to be determined, is being searched by three vessels, two from the Maritime Authority and the other from the Fire Department of Portimão.

In addition to these two entities, the Fire Department of Lagoa, the GNR and the concessionaire of the EN 125 Rotas do Algarve Litoral are on the ground, with operational and means.

After a cut of several hours, Ponte Nova do Arade reopened to traffic at 11 am.

The infrastructure is being the target of improvement works, which have already forced the interdiction of traffic twice.
