triathlonVilamoura will host, this Sunday, the first edition of the Algarve International Triathlon and Half Marathon. The start of the Triathlon is scheduled for 8:00 am and the Half Marathon for 10:00 am. Olympic champions Rosa Mota and Carlos Lopes are the godfathers of the competitions and will be present.

According to the Câmara de Loulé, «the presence of these two emblematic figures of Portuguese sport will be one more contribution to leverage these two competitions, which are intended to be part of the anchor events in the Algarve in the coming years, contributing to the international promotion of the region» .

In triathlon, an international competition, «athletes will swim 1,9 km, travel 90 km on relatively demanding bicycles and run for 21 km with a low slope accumulation, enabling a very fast route where excellent performances can be achieved». reveals the Chamber of Loulé.

As for the Half Marathon, «it is an international event, of an annual nature, with a low gap accumulation, enabling a fast race where national and international distance records can be beaten (21 km)».
The mini marathon (11 km) and the march (6 km) are also scheduled for this day.

In this first edition, according to Câmara de Loulé, «about two hundred athletes from countries like Spain, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Switzerland or Belgium are expected, but in the next two years, it is expected that there will be close to a thousand participants» .

With the seal “Loulé European City of Sport 2015”, this event is organized by the Municipality of Loulé, in partnership with the Algarve Athletics Association and the Triathlon Federation of Portugal.
