Mobile Health UnitUntil May next year, the people of Olho will have at their disposal a Mobile Sexual and Reproductive Health Unit, which will be parked every Monday, between 18:00 pm and 22:00 pm, on Avenida 5 de Outubro, between the Markets and the Jardim Patrão Joaquim Lopes.

This is the project “Aquém e Além Margens: Risco 0”, by the Algarve delegation of the Association for Family Planning (APF), which will carry out information and awareness-raising actions in the field of HIV/AIDS and other Sexually Infections Communicables (IST), HIV/AIDS screening, as well as distribution of condoms and information material.

Everyone can use this Mobile Unit, although particular attention is given to the most vulnerable sections of the population, such as sex workers, their clients, immigrants and other groups that present risky behavior.

APF is a Private Institution of Social Solidarity (IPSS) with Health purposes. It was founded in 1967, and its mission is to help people make free and conscious choices in their sexual and reproductive life and promote positive parenting.

Headquartered in Faro, the APF delegation in the Algarve was created on April 7, 1987, in a decade that, in Portugal, was marked by the struggle for the right to access to contraception, family planning consultations and sexual education in schools, as well as for growing concern about HIV/AIDS.

Over the years, APF Algarve has focused its activities on two major areas: intervention with the community in the area of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Family Planning, with particular focus on the prevention of HIV/AIDS and other STIs and organization of training actions in the areas of sexuality, sexual education and sexual and reproductive health, with young people, professionals and families.
