The Vila do Bispo Council is promoting a population control program for roving, wild cat colonies or those living with families in a situation of proven economic need in the municipality.
According to the municipality, "since this program was implemented, several colonies of cats in the municipality have been sterilized and duly returned to their habitat."
This initiative comes within the scope of a protocol signed between the Municipality of Vila do Bispo and the “Animals de Rua” Association, and the control is carried out according to the CED (Capture-Sterilize-Return) method «since it is the only means ethical and effective in the control of colonies of cats, and in the reduction of the wild feline population».
The municipality explains that "all sterilized animals are also internally and externally dewormed, treated if they have symptoms of any pathology, and marked with a small cut on the tip of the left ear, which is an international sign of a sterilized animal."
The Chamber of Vila do Bispo adds that "this measure is essentially aimed at controlling the reproduction and welfare of the animal in the various colonies of abandoned cats in the municipality".
At the same time, this initiative is being disseminated to the student community in Vila do Bispo, through some teachers from the EB2,3 School of São Vicente. The teachers are also carrying out a campaign to raise awareness about the rights of animals and publicize the work carried out by various associations that help animals, highlighting the importance of sterilization and responsible adoption.
At the same time, in all schools in the Group, food collection is taking place, by the entire educational community, to help abandoned animals in the municipality of Vila do Bispo.
