Students at the Colégio da Torraltinha have already delivered donations for their animals to the Lagos Municipal Kennel, such as blankets, pipettes, toys and feed containers.
This initiative, which marked World Animal Day, follows on from the Awareness Campaign for animal welfare, under the motto “Loving is Caring”, carried out by the Municipality of Lagos and aimed in particular at the school population of County.
This campaign, whose target audience was students from primary schools and kindergartens, was promoted by the Municipal Veterinary Service and focused, in a playful way, on the needs of the most common pets, calling for individual responsibility and preventing the bad -treatment and abandonment of animals.
The material now donated by the young students of Colégio Torraltinha «will be very welcome in the kennel», stresses the municipality in a press release.
The Municipality of Lagos even made a point of «publicly thanking the concern shown by these students, ready to help the animals in the kennel».
According to those responsible for the Municipal Veterinary Service, the commitment to raising awareness among the youngest layers of the population "has proven to be the most effective bet in combating the growing abandonment of animals (especially during vacations)".
The idea for this campaign came about «following the already a lot of work that has been developed in the area of animal welfare», such as the improvements made to the facilities of the Municipal Kennel, the concern with updating the management regulations of that space or, even, partnerships with animal defense associations, in this case, Associação Cadela Carlota & Companhia and Associação Miacis.
The Kennel has also had the support of several volunteers, to whom the municipality also expresses its public thanks.
