EN2The mayor of São Brás de Alportel once again asked the chairman of Infraestruturas de Portugal "the urgent requalification of the EN2 with a view to improving the municipality's access to the Algarve capital and Via do Infante".

The São Paulo mayor had already made the same request about a year ago, at a meeting between AMAL and Estradas de Portugal at the time.

The City Council of São Brás de Alportel has the main problems well identified and proposes several improvements. The municipality suggests, from the outset, «the creation of a roundabout at the intersection of the EN2 with access to Faro and to Via do Infante, in the Coiro da Burra site».

Other key interventions would be “the creation of a second lane in some uphill areas (slow lane) on the current EN2 route”, as well as “the correction of some curves considered more dangerous”.

Finally, the City Council of São Brás de Alportel asks for the “implementation of safety measures for the movement of pedestrians in the Machados site”.

«The proposed works for improvement and specific corrections on the road are fundamental to improve the accessibility of the municipality, especially because São Brás de Alportel does not have a direct connection to the Via do Infante, and will ensure more safety conditions for those on the road, especially in one of the sections with a high accident rate. These interventions are also crucial to boosting the business fabric and boosting economic activities in São Brás de Alportel», defended the municipality.

«Conducting these interventions also represents a new step in the project to create a direct connection from São Brás de Alportel to Via do Infante, a work that was already provided for in the EN 125 requalification plan», added the City Council of São Brás de Alportel.
