The Territorial Command of Faro da GNR believes that "one of the main responsible for the introduction of narcotics in the region" was arrested this week, in the Greater Lisbon area, following an investigation carried out by the GNR of Loulé.

Allegedly, the man brought the drug «from the Lisbon area, to sell it in isolated areas of the forest in the municipalities of Loulé, Silves and Albufeira».

The trafficker, seen as one of the biggest drug suppliers in the Algarve, was arrested following searches carried out this week in two houses he owns, in the Greater Lisbon area.

After the operation, the police also ended up arresting another person, who lived in one of the houses searched and where material linked to criminal activities was found. In addition to drugs, evidence was found that men were preparing to forge money.

With regard to material directly linked to drug trafficking, 77 individual doses of cocaine and 18 of heroin were discovered in the searches, as well as 185 grams of cutting product and two precision digital scales.

In addition to this material, the police found nearly eight kilos of powdered/granulated gold in the houses, 5 euros, «a large quantity of paper wads, prepared for forgery of €50 and €100 banknotes, taking into account the measurements and quality of the paper”, US$ 100, a laptop, five mobile phones, four “high value” watches and an MP4.

The GNR is convinced that seized gold (powder/granulate) was stolen in the region and later exchanged for drugs, after which it was scrapped. Then it was turned into gold bars.

The operation was carried out with the support of the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the National Republican Guard and elements of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Public Security Police of Amadora.

The same investigation had already led to the arrest of two other traffickers, caught in January by the Criminal Investigation Nucleus of Loulé and who are currently in preventive detention.
