Islanders await the arrival of the Polis Society in Ilha do FarolAbout two hundred people are gathered today, Monday, from the early hours of the morning, in the nucleus of the Farol of Ilha da Culatra, to try to avoid the takeover of houses by the Polis Ria Formosa Society.

Those responsible for implementing the Polis Program announced, in a statement, that they would take possession of “illegal buildings located in the Public Maritime Domain on Ilha da Culatra – Núcleo do Farol Spring, with the exception of those where the first and only dwelling is invoked", which led to the direction of the Associação da Ilha do Faroit calls for the presence of the owners and all those who are contesting the demolitions, to try to avoid it.

"This swearing-in was preceded by all the necessary legal procedures and will be carried out in strict compliance with the law", guaranteed Polis.

Even so, the Polis employees, whose function will be to mark and post notices for the possession of the houses to be demolished, had not yet arrived at the Farol, around noon, as the reporter for the Sul Informação, which is on site.

The only authority that has been present so far has been the Maritime Police, albeit with only one patrol, which made the rounds to the Island and left.

The notice from the Polis, that it will take possession of houses that are not the first and only dwellings, alarmed the 134 owners who saw the injunctions they presented provisionally accepted by the court.

Maritime Police received with nails in the FarolIn the communiqué, only three precautionary measures are mentioned: one, presented last Wednesday by the Chamber of Olhão, which invokes environmental reasons to suspend demolitions on the Ria Formosa barrier islands, namely the destruction of the chameleon's habitat, and two interposed by private individuals, on Friday, "in which it is alleged that the constructions in question are not in the public maritime domain (DPM) and one of them also claims that they are constructions of the first and only dwelling".

«(…) Understanding that the suspension of the works would cause serious harm to the public interest, the Polis Society decided to file with the same Court two reasoned resolutions relating to the action filed by the Municipality of Olhão and the other referring to the one filed by individuals who claim that the constructions are not in DPM, in order to continue with the ongoing activities», announced the Polis Society.

"With regard to the injunction that alleges that they are also constructions of the first and only dwelling, and given that the buildings that are proven to correspond to the first and only dwellings will only be demolished after the relocation of the interested parties, Sociedade Polis will proceed from immediately to the analysis of the grounds invoked in the injunction, leaving for a later time its pronouncement», he added.
