Between April 30th and May 3rd, Amoreiras-Gare, in the parish of S. Martinho das Amoreiras, hosts the May Festivities and the 12th Interior Fair of the Municipality of Odemira. The event will have musical performances, handicrafts and also a colloquium on Alentejo sing.
The Exhibition of Regional Crafts and Products takes place between May 1st and 3rd, with dozens of artisans working live, in the various arts and crafts.
The organization belongs to the Association for the Development of Amoreiras-Gare, with the support of the Municipality of Odemira and the Parish Council of S. Martinho das Amoreiras.
However, the animation starts this Wednesday, on the night of April 30th, with a ball with the artist Ruben Baião.
On May 1st, at noon and at 16 pm, there will be street entertainment by Grupo Musical Amoreirense and the Traditional Dances of Alentejo.
At 14:30 pm, the 10th Festival of Singing to the Challenge/Improviso begins, with the participation of singers from the region and the Concertina Group “Raízes do Minho”. At night there is a ball with Fábio Lagarto and a show with the artist Zé do Pipo.
On Saturday, May 2, at 10:30 am, the colloquium “Cante Alentejano – Intangible Heritage of Humanity” will take place and, at 14:30 pm, the Tarde do Cante will begin, with the participation of the groups “Vozes Femininas” from Amoreiras-Gare, “Os Mineiros de Aljustrel”, “As Ceifeiras” (Entries), “Os Amigos do Alentejo” (Feijó) and the Youth Choir Group “Bafos de Baco” (Cuba).
A clarification session is scheduled for 16:00 pm on incentives to support forest maintenance and installation. From 17:00, the stage of the Festas de Maio will be the “Campaniça Trio”, with Pedro Mestre, David Pereira and José Diogo. The night will be filled with a ball with Rui Soares & Lau and a show with David Antunes & Midnight Band, with the participation of Vanessa Silva.
On the last day of May, on Sunday, at 10:00 am, there will be a Mass celebrated by the Auxiliary Bishop of Beja, D. João Marcos, accompanied by the Coro do Carmo de Beja, under the direction of Father Cartageno.
From 11:00 am there will be performances by popular artists and poets and the 5th Poetry Contest prizes will be awarded. For the afternoon there is a concert of campaniza violas by the group “Moços d'um Cana” from Escola Secundária de Castro Verde and the usual Encontro de Cante ao Baldão, open to all singers.
At the end of the afternoon there will be a performance by the Grupo Musical Amoreirense and the Folklore Group of the Casa do Povo da Conceição Faro. As is tradition, the festivities end with the Bullfight in Alentejo.
