Sagres_walk to pe_er_3There are only five days until the start of the Algarve Nature Week. From April 11th to 19th, more than fifty tourist entertainment companies and accommodation in rural areas offer countless possibilities to enjoy the Algarve's nature throughout the region.

The event is a bet of the Algarve Tourism Region to «diversify the tourist offer of the destination» and includes an exhibition with free entry in the Ribeirinho de Faro, on the weekend of April 17, 18 and 19, involving participating companies with the local community, artisans, producers, plastic artists and schools.

The organization guarantees an online tool for now - – which brings together a large part of the offer of tourist entertainment operating in the Algarve.

Through this platform, users will be able to get to know in detail the companies that organize activities in natural environments and it also includes accommodation, some in rural areas and in places close to protected areas, that have joined this event.

Bird watchingAmong the activities planned for the first day, we highlight a workshop at Fonte da Benémola, to collect sugarcane and make simple and useful objects from this material. The activity is promoted by ProActiveTur. More information and registration by clicking here.

On the first weekend of April 11th and 12th, there will also be hikes in the Serra de Monchique, with a first day dedicated to a section of the Via Algarviana, using small alternative routes, and on the second, to the area around the village of Marmelete.

But the highlight of this week dedicated to Nature Tourism in the Algarve will be the Nature Activities Show, with free entry, from April 17th to 19th, at Parque Ribeirinho in Faro.

Many of the participating companies will be present there, offering, on Friday, the possibility of trying out numerous activities for free and, on Saturday and Sunday, at very special prices.

Thus, in the Ria Formosa, visitors can take trips in traditional boats, «Circuitos de Natureza» to Ilha Deserta, a «Volta à Ilhas» that includes a trip to the Farol, Barreta, Deserta, Culatra, Hangares and Armona, the «Route of the Nurseries» to learn how to cultivate, catch and prepare oysters off Culatra or guided kayak tours through the canals and marshes.

riverside park of faroFor those who like to walk, there will also be several programs to choose from during the exhibition: recognition and interpretation of plants in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, bird watching, called «Aves na Cidade», or «Viagem no Tempo, a Ria Formosa as an ecofact».

The more adventurous will have the possibility of taking bike rides and off-road vehicles through the rural interior and along the coast of the Eastern Algarve.

There will also be space for riding experiences with horses and the chance to ride saddled donkeys. And since we are talking about animals, it is worth mentioning the presence of water dogs for an action to promote the Algarvian breed.

The workshops are other forms of entertainment suggested by the organization for the 17th, 18th and 19th. There are them to teach how to make drinks with natural products such as teas, infusions and refreshments, to teach how to make the basis of a fact, in the so-called « Fashion Nature», to create cork jewelry and to create pictures with small trunks, seeds, leaves, flowers and other natural elements.

Specially prepared for children, accompanied by parents and teachers, there is also a workshop on face painting, memory games and the proposals «Mini-Archaeologists», «Discovering the Bottom of the Sea» and «Natureza Atrás da Lupa».

tree climbing coursesThe articulation with the school community is ensured by the organization that, in partnership with the General Directorate of School Establishments, sent invitations to all school groups in the municipality and to establishments in the private sector of Faro, from Olhão and Loulé.

Therefore, it is foreseen the participation of about 500 students from the second and third cycles and their respective teachers, for which, considers the president of RTA Desidério Silva, «it is essential that children and young people, the main prescribers of behavior, can also benefit from this educational and playful component that the event provides».

Also during the Exhibition, the exhibition of photography «Algarve, Natural Secrets», which brings together the best photographic works of the hobby with the same name, developed by RTA, will be open to the public. The aim is to make visitors aware of the importance of the region's natural heritage.

The exhibition «Cabra Parade» and the installations by the artist Tó Quintas are also present.

canoeingThe three-day Nature Activities Show closes the first edition of Algarve Nature Week, an unprecedented event in the region that aims to make known the natural beauty of the destination, diversifying the tourist offer and increasing the demand for nature tourism, a product that is expected to motivate around 26 million trips in Europe by 2020.
