The 9th Albufeira Youth Basketball Party came to an end this Sunday after five days of competition. The regional teams of Porto and Lisbon conquered the first places on the podium, with Porto standing out in the Men's Under 14 and Women's Under 16 teams while the alfacinha team won in the Men's Under 16s. In the Under 14 Women, the victory belonged to Aveiro, who beat the Porto team by 54-45.
The finals were played on Sunday morning at the Albufeira Sports Pavilion, at the Albufeira Basic and Secondary School, in Vale Pedras, and Francisco Neves.
This year, the Basket Solidário action reverted in favor of APEXA - Association for the Support of Exceptional Persons in the Algarve, which received the sum of 1.362,00 Euros, as a result of a donation of 1 Euro by all participants of the event.
Albufeira City Council highlights the news that marked this event as the «livestream of all games, official statistics with play-by-play in all 198 matches, the new mascot Blitz, the Fair-play white card, the park Coca-Cola, or the giant screen of funaddict».
During the closing and awards ceremony of the Festa do Basketball-Albufeira 2014, the organization expressed its appreciation for the initiative having registered another success, with athletes, managers and the rest of the delegation visibly satisfied with the result.
In addition to the mayor of Albufeira, Carlos Silva e Sousa, the ceremony was attended by Manuel Fernandes, president of the FPB, Paulo Freitas, president of the Albufeira Municipal Assembly, and Augusto Badanha, president of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ).
