lagosBlessed Gonçalo de Lagos and Blessed Vicente de Albufeira are the two Algarve saints who, from now on, will motivate two thematic walks promoted by the Pastoral Diocesana do Turismo do Algarve team, on routes available on your website.

The objective is to make known these important figures in the region's history, giving access to information about these saints and the historical heritage associated with them and which can be visited.

Who access online platform you can find two proposed routes, one in the city of Lagos and the other in the city of Albufeira.

In both, the aim is to lead the visitor to discover spaces linked, in some way, to the life of the Saints: the birthplaces, churches where they are believed to have been (for example, Blessed Vicente de Albufeira was baptized in the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Orada, a place of worship for the inhabitants of Albufeira for many centuries), museum spaces where pieces linked to their history can be found (such as the Municipal Museum of Lagos or the Museum of Sacred Art in Albufeira).

praying ladyThe tours are of short duration (approximately five hours, in other words, one morning or one afternoon) and it is proposed that visitors do them on foot, indicating a route and car parking places.

In this way, in addition to making known the Saints, given that information about their life and work is made available, it is proposed to discover these places, as well as the religious heritage that exists in them.

“This initiative is part of the pastoral program proposal of the Diocese, which dedicates the year 2014/2015 to the theme “Called to Holiness” and, in this context, is inspired by the example of some saints and even proposes that the knowledge of his life», explains the Pastoral do Turismo.

The idea had already been considered of the utmost importance by the team of the diocesan Ministry of Tourism, namely at the time of the public presentation of its strategic plan, in 2011.

The Diocesan Ministry of Tourism had the support of Algardata for the creation of pages dedicated to these tours.
