Church_Matrix_Loulé_CMLThe Parish Church of Loulé will host the «Concert of Processional Marches of Holy Week», on April 1st, at 21 pm. The show will be performed by the Banda Filarmónica Artistas de Minerva, which will present marches that accompanied the processions that existed in Loulé during Holy Week.

This is an organization of the Parish of Loulé, with the support of the City Council, whose objective is “to make known some of this heritage that has ceased to exist and to recall this past so rich in religious and cultural moments”.

«Eastern Holy Week was, until the 60s of the XNUMXth century, a strong moment and much lived by the people of Loulé, due to its religious importance and also because of the various expressions of faith that filled Holy Week and brought many people from Loulé to the streets. As in other places in the Algarve, Loulé was the point of reference for the celebrations of the Semana Maior for Christians: the Procession of the Steps (…), the Procession of Endoenças (…), the Procession of the Burial of the Lord (…) and the Procession of Bells on Easter Sunday (which still takes place today).

This set of celebrations demonstrates the religious vigor that permeated its own cultural identity. An important part of these manifestations were the musical compositions performed by the Philharmonic Bands, giving it unparalleled nobility and solemnity», framed the Câmara de Loulé, in a press release.
