Eduardo DuarteThe geographer Eduardo Duarte was invited to present the lecture “A Geografia dos Dias” at the Geography Week at Escola Secundária Teixeira Gomes, the educational establishment where the speaker studied.

The event, which served to demonstrate that Geography "accompanies us in our daily life" and is "important in territorial planning to improve the quality of life of populations", took place on Monday and brought together teachers and students from that school.

But we didn't just talk about Geography in this lecture. Eduardo Duarte's interest in literature led him to talk about works such as “O principezinho” by Antoine de Saint Exupéry and “Portugal” by Miguel Torga. In the first, reference was made to the geographer who, in his professional activity, deals with eternal realities.

In the case of Torga's work, Eduardo Duarte (who works as a geographer at the Monchique City Council) referred to the representation that «we all carry from our country, in our hearts, as, moreover, the lecture demonstrated: during its accomplishment, each of those present drew “their” map of Portugal”.

This meeting was attended by librarian professor Luís Salema and with the collaboration of the Library, which also provides, throughout this week, a showcase of books on topics addressed in the scope of disciplines in the area of geography.
